June Happenings

Come check out the library’s copy of June’s Charlotte Magazine which features area lakes where you can go to beat the summer heat. Or seek out your nearest movie theatre to chill out with a blockbuster or two. Upcoming flicks include: Snow White and the Hunstmen (June 1), Prometheus (June 8), Rock of Ages (June 15) , Brave (June 22), and G.I.Joe (June 29).

Before the kids can claim boredom, Charlotte on the Cheap has an entire post devoted to entertaining the little ones all summer long.

Charlotte in 2012: Reaching for Tomorrow

As you may (or may not) know, the Democratic National Convention will be held in our fair city, September 3 – 7, 2012.  “The Convention will draw an expected 35,000 visitors to the Charlotte area, including: 15,000 media; 7,000 delegates; members of both the U.S. House and Senate and other significant figures in public life from around the world”, according to the Charlotte in 2012 website.  The Charlotte School of Law is excited about the opportunities and possibilities this offers our community.  To that end, the 2012 Civic Engagement Team has been created and the CSL Library will be involved as a non-partisan forum to promote guest speakers and other Engagement Team events.  These events may include such things as “Did you know . . .?” slides on the digital signage about the building, many and varied displays in the Library dealing with the electoral process in the United States, election law, immigration law, street law, voter registration, the impact of redistricting and the state-to-state connection we all share, as well as student blogging, high school outreach programs, newsletters, podcasts and videos.

Watch for a formal letter announcing the CET in late January with additional information being rolled out over the months following.  If you would like to be a member of the Civic Engagement Team, please contact Christie Matthews (cmatthews@charlottelaw.edu) to inform her of your interest.  And check back at the CSL Library blog for even more information as events of interest draw nearer.
