Book Giveaway!

bookgiveaway

The Charlotte School of Law Library is launching a Book Giveaway! These are treatises, reporters, and state statutory items that will not move with us when we relocate the Law Library uptown. These materials will be available for free on a first come first served basis. We are going to offer these items in phases with the students and alumni having the first opportunity to make reservations.  In our second phase, we will give the faculty, staff, and Law Library attorney members the option to reserve materials.  Finally, any remaining materials will be offered to local libraries and other institutions.

The dates of these phases are:

  •  April 15 to April 26: Open to Alumni and Students
  • April  29 to May 10: Open to faculty, staff, and attorney members
  • May 13 to May 31:  Open to local libraries or other institutions and individuals

You will need to provide the means to pack and transport the materials you wish to have. The Law Library will provide book trucks to move the books to your vehicle. We expect many of these items to go quickly.

Go to this website to view a list of the items and to access the form needed to reserve these items: https://sites.google.com/site/bookgiveawaycsl/

Optimists get more…

More what?  Health, prosperity and happiness.

March is National Optimism Month and International Mirth Month.

Optimism:  Hopefulness and confidence about the future or the successful outcome of something; a tendency to take a favorable or hopeful view.

Mirth:  Pleasurable feeling; enjoyment, gratification; joy, happiness.

*Definitions courtesy of the Oxford English Dictionary.

Learning the law is serious business but optimism and humor can help take the edge off on tough days.  Tired?  Lack focus?  Invite optimism and mirth into your life.

Come to the Charlotte Law Library and check out the comedy classics in the DVD collection.  Need to turn your volume switch to 11?  If you don’t get that one, then it’s time to check out This is Spinal Tap. Browse the library catalog to see more available titles.  (Advanced search:  keyword=films and material).  Maybe Elle Woods in Legally Blonde is the one who can make you laugh and optimistic again:

Elle’s Mother: Honey, you were First Runner-Up at the “Miss Hawaiian Tropics” contest. Why are you going to throw that all away?
Elle: Going to Harvard is the only way I’m going to get the love of my life back.
Elle‘s Father: Oh, sweetheart, you don’t need law school. Law school is for people who are boring and ugly and serious. And you, button, are none of those things.

This month, the library display near the elevators features optimistic and humorous resources in our collection.  Stop by for ideas or one day you may need The Curmudgeon’s Guide to Practicing Law by Mark Herrmann. [Located in Treatises at  KF300 .H47 2006]

“Research proves optimists achieve more health, prosperity and happiness than pessimists.  Use this month long celebration to practice optimism and turn optimism into a delightful, permanent habit.” -Chases’s Calendar of Events Ask our Technical Services Team to check this book out. [Located in Tech. Services at GT4803 .C48]

CCH to Intelliconnect

Over the past 6-8 months CCH has worked diligently to go through a complete revamping of their research interface.  In August, they introduced the new platform, IntelliConnect.  Intelli-what?  IntelliConnect is “the revolutionary research platform that will streamline your workflow, improve accuracy and efficiency and give you unprecedented access to CCH’s world-class content. IntelliConnect is a functional and technological evolution to CCH’s current, renowned research platform, known as Tax Research NetWork™ and Internet Research NetWork™.”  For more answers to your questions, Intelliconnect has developed a FAQ page that is extremely helpful.

What type of material  is available on Intelliconnect?

  • News and current awareness tools
  • Practice-ready tools on state and local taxes, human resources, benefits, health care compliance, labor and employment law, payroll and pension issues.
  • Explanations, analysis, treatises, and guidebooks on all of the before-mentioned topics
  • Laws, regulations and other primary resources involving OSHA, environmental compliance, FDA regulations, and primary sources on tax, accounting, human resources, and employment law areas.

Take a virtual tour on this database and see how easy it is to use!
