Charlotte Summer Concert Series

A lot of great bands are rolling through town this summer and here is a list of where to experience Charlotte’s music scene:

Next week’s Food Lion Speed Street kicks things off with free performances by Josh Turner, Everclear and Eddie Money.

Also taking place next week is the fourth annual Charlotte Femme Fest in NoDa at the Neighborhood Theatre and the Evening Muse.

Just down the street from CSL, Coyote Joe’s brings Easton Corbin to town.

If bands from the 90’s are more your style, uptown’s NC Music Factory hosts a $5 show each Friday night now through June 17 with Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Tonic and Cowboy Mouth.

Steps away, the Fillmore Charlotte will host Neon Trees and Panic at the Disco!

Another great way to enjoy live music is to take part in Alive after Five each Thursday night at either the Epicentre, Wachovia Plaza or Piedmont Town Center .

The month of June brings Kenny Chesney, Def Leppard and Phish to the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre.

Keith Urban and Josh Groban play the Time Warner Cable Arena next month.

After a long hike or a guided raft ride, you can soak up some tunes at the White Water River Jam at the US National White Water Center.

If you’re looking for something more low-key, then a blanket and a picnic basket would complement the harmonic melodies quite nicely at the Pops in the Park behind South Park Mall beginning June 12 with tickets at just $10.

Expect the same kind of laid back scene on the Blakeney Village Green in South Charlotte

Pollstar is a great resource for more information on local concerts.

Stay tuned for more fun things to do in Charlotte this summer!

A Year in Review: 2010

At the close of 2010, take a second to reflect on the top Charlotte Law Library News posts of the year.  The blog posts were determined, by you, the reader, based on how popular you considered them throughout the year.

  1. Library Summer Hours. Driven mostly because of the cute cartoon sun, viewers hit this post 3 times as many times as our #2.
  2. Home page of the Charlotte Law Library News, which changes weekly based on the blog submission provided by the Charlotte Law Library Team.  The blogs range from announcement of library news to updates in new library technology to funny cartoons drawn in-house.
  3. CSL Mobile Reference.  Join our Friends List: We’re available at CSLReference.
  4. New in Town? Written by Ms. Jamie Sunnycalb.  From malls to sporting events, she explores the ins and outs of Charlotte’s hot spots and entertainment.  This post is a great guide to Charlotte, especially for the new CharlotteLaw student.
  5. Murphy’s Law School: 2. Charlotte Law Library’s original comic created by Access Services Manager, Kim Allman, and CSL former Reference Librarian, Anthony Aycock.
  6. Murphy’s Law School 4. The fourth in the series of comics depicting humorous legal scenerios.
  7. The North Carolina Bar Exam: Tips and Tricks. A compilation of resources for studying and taking the Bar Exam in North Carolina.
  8. North Carolina regulations regarding coyote community. “The law of coyotes in North Carolina is a well-developed common law tradition dating from the earliest years of British rule to the present day. This rich heritage of amusing anecdotes, famous cases, and important contributions to the law of ferae naturae is well documented” in this blog post written by CharlotteLaw’s former reference librarian, Tom Hemstock.
  9. Murphy’s Law School. The original comic strip posted for entertainment purposes by the Charlotte Law Library Staff.
  10. Thinking that the North Carolina Bar exam is hard???? A comical take on the North Carolina Bar Exam versus Montana’s requirements.

New in Town?

Welcome to Charlotte, North Carolina! Home to banking, the NASCAR Hall of Fame and good eats. It’s the city that has a little bit of everything, all served up with some good ol’ Southern hospitality. If you are a newcomer to the Queen City, we’ve compiled a list of helpful sites to get you acclimated to your new home.

Dining at CSL

Although there is no cafeteria on campus, there are food vendors that come each week.

Restaurants Near CSL

Freedom Drive: Cookout, Showmars, McDonald’s, Taco Bell, Captain D’s

West Charlotte is slowly but surely offering its residents with more dining opportunities. If you want to expand your culinary boundaries outside of the traditional fast food, may we suggest Savor, Open Kitchen, and Pinky’s.

Savor is a cozy spot where you can find blue plate specials served hot and fast, refreshing strawberry lemonade and freshly baked goodies.

Open Kitchen is all things Italian, calling West Morehead home for more than 50 years.

Pinky’s is the offspring of the Penguin which is projected to open later this year. No doubt patrons will come to find a similar menu featuring burgers, hot dogs and fries.

Restaurants 5-10 miles from CSL:

Morehead Street: Dilworth Neighborhood Grill, Frankie’s, Art’s BBQ, Morehead Street Tavern
