What did you do this summer?

“For my wedding anniversary (July 15), my wife and I went to Harrah’s Casino in Cherokee, NC.  My wife is the gambler, not me.  She won $50 . . . then she lost $47.  The remaining $3?  We spent it at the Cherokee flea market!” – Anthony Aycock

Brian Trippodo is heading to San Francisco next week, and has promised updates upon his return.

“I visited the Biltmore mansion for the very first time over the July 4th break.  All I can say is I loved the gardens and want to go back every season when they change the flowers” – Bobbie Studwell

“After watching Rounders, Ocean’s 11 and Casino Royale too many times, took a gamble this summer. I went to Las Vegas in July and the lesser known (but still gamble-tastic) Foxwoods in August. Needless to say since I didn’t win big but had a great time.”  - Tom Hemstock

“The best part about visiting new cities is getting to sample the local cuisine. My road trip to Savannah, Georgia this past June provided such an opportunity. I dined at Paul Deen’s restaurant, The Lady and Sons, and saddled up to the buffet to sample some of the Southern-style spread of fried chicken, mashed potatoes, greens, mac n’ cheese and tempting desserts. I could go on, but I’ll stop because I’m making myself hungry and it’s another hour until lunch time. Needless to say, my visit to Savannah was a real treat!” –  How I spent my summer vacation by Jamie Sunnycalb

“Over the summer I took a week off and my two sons Ian and Duncan ages 13 and 10. We had an adventure up into the Virginia Mountains spelunking the incredible caves of this area. The underground formations were fantastic. Seeing these majestic works of nature that took millions of years to form filled me with awe and help me put my own life in perspective.” – Kim Allman

KA Summer Vacation

“I spent the majority of my summer sitting in a study carrel in the back-right cold corner of the Local History Room in the Iredell Public Library.  Now I know you’re thinking ‘why would someone in their right mind want to do that?’  Well it is because I was studying for the NC Bar Exam.  And on July 28th and 29th, I put on my lucky socks and piled right on in Jim Graham Building at the NC State Fair Grounds with the 500+ other exam-takers.  Results TBD.”  – Liz McCurry
